Knowing when it’s time to move on
It’s not uncommon to hit a plateau in your career. Maybe you’ve reached a point in which you’re working on the same issues day in and day out or feel unchallenged. Whatever the situation, your lack of enthusiasm may mean it’s time to move on. Here are the top five warning signs that your career may be stuck in neutral: 1. You can’t recall when you’ve learned something new on the job. 2. You’ve asked management for more duties but they have given you none or no direction. 3. Your opportunities for advancement have diminished over time. 4. Your company doesn’t provide opportunities to grow professionally: they don’t provide additional training or cover education expenses. 5. Promoting from within doesn’t happen and vacant jobs are filled externally.
If you are not learning or growing in your job it can definitely affect your motivation. If you feel like you’ve done everything you can to better the situation, but are still sitting in neutral, take time to investigate the best options to find a rewarding job for you.
