System Engineer, Biometrics Focus

 

Company: $10 Million, Laser Communications, California

Salary: $115K- $150K + Possible Bonus + Options

Reports To: VP

AGORA Consulting has been retained to source a Systems Engineer with LaserCom background for a rapidly growing designer and manufacturer of ultra-high-bandwidth laser communication systems. Our Client's technology enables lasercom directly through the atmosphere and are currently developing optical (Iris recognition) systems to revolutionize the field of biometrics.
As Systems Engineer, you will lead design and implementation of advanced biometrics product line, including iris recognition products. This position requires an individual who is dedicated, articulate, energetic, and results oriented team player with positive attitude and excellent people skills.

You will have demonstrated leadership skills with a thorough understanding of systems engineering and have prior experience delivering products from concept to manufacturing. The systems engineer will be responsible for developing system level technical requirements, allocation of system requirements to the various subsystems, interface to marketing and represent engineering in the product definition phase, perform design trade offs with respect to cost and product complexity, and define the verification of system-level performance and testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead definition of system architecture, product functionality, and operating environment with emphasis on cost, time to market and end user application needs.
  • Write formal system design requirements specifications document, perform analysis/allocations to lower level subsystems to meet system objectives and define internal and external physical interfaces to the product.
  • Understand and access technical trade-offs and recommend architecture/design direction to reduce cost and manufacturing complexity.
  • Track and verify that system level design requirements are met and drive the internal product development to meet objectives.
  • Lead technical discussions on design trade offs and be the focal point for coordinating/scheduling technical activities of optical, electrical, mechanical and software engineering groups.
  • Make technical presentations to executive management on product architecture and product design trade off decisions.
  • Lead system level and component level problem solving activities and help navigate engineering team through problems during integration and test.
  • May require technical team leadership of design engineering staff, in a matrix environment.
  • Provide input to project management plans and support program manager in identifying technical and schedule risks.

Requirements:

  • M.S. in engineering, a Ph.D is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer working with optical or laser based technology.
  • Strong leadership skills and prior experience with delivering a product from concept through product development to manufacturing.
  • Prior experience in writing system requirements specifications documents and flow down analysis of these requirements.
  • Industrial experience with products that need a thorough understanding of multiple disciplines including electrical, mechanical, optical and software engineering.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
